You’re the Grandma, it doesn’t matter–

As I shared my excitement about shopping for a dress to wear to my granddaughters wedding next June, my 87 year old friend said, “It doesn’t matter what you wear, you’re the Grandmother. Besides, after a certain age our dresses all look alike. It’s just the fabric that changes.”

I cringed inside. “No! There are stylish dresses out there for Grandma’s” I insisted. I don’t know why I didn’t realize it before but when I started shopping, I found she was quite right. ‘Boxie’ dresses with jackets, in lace, linen, silk, brocade and etc. One standard style. Where is Ann Launders when you need her? She would speak out for us. Where is Liz Claiborne, she knows we still have a waist.

I realize a portion of what my friend said is true. It doesn’t matter to anyone else what I wear, but it does matter to me. I am the Bride’s Grandmother. I’ll look at the pictures of grandmothers in others wedding portfolios some other time, right now I have serious shopping to do.

Blessings on your day,

Nelle
